Do you know the secrets of Eraser?
Eraser is a common stationery that everyone is familiar with. When we were young and wrote a wrong word with pencil, we just wiped it with a rubber, and then wrote it correctly. Do you know why it can erase pencil marks?
Why can eraser erase pencil marks?
When using a pencil, the lead rubs on the paper, the fine graphite powder will cover these imperceptible pits on the paper, leaving a dark gray mark on the paper. The erasers have a certain flexibility. When the erasers rub on the paper, the rubber can go deep into the fiber gaps on the paper, and take away the graphite particles on the surface. At the same time, the paper will naturally become clean again.
When writing with a pen, the ink will penetrate into the fiber inner layer of the paper, so it cannot be erased with an eraser.
What is eraser made of?
There were three steps in early eraser making:
01
Oil refineries send powdered or liquid synthetic rubber to the rubber factories. If natural rubber is to be used, solid and large rubber must be crushed and dissolved.
02
Mixing rubber with ground pumice powder, iron oxide, vegetable oil, sulfur and other substances.
03
Heating the mixture to mix the sulfur with the rubber, which increases the strength of the rubber and makes it more durable. This is the initial process of making eraser.
In recent years, due to it’s excellent erasing performance and convenient use, plastic erasers made of polyvinyl chloride (PVC) as the main raw material have become the mainstream products.
The formula of plastic rubber is usually made of polyvinyl chloride (PVC) and compounding agents (plasticizer, filler, stabilizer, processing aids, etc.). The plasticizer mainly uses phthalate esters, the filler mainly uses calcium carbonate, titanium dioxide, etc., the stabilizer mainly uses stearate, the processing aids mainly include lubricants, and other auxiliary materials include colorants and flavors.
In the formula design, the physical properties of PVC are greatly changed through the coordination between PVC and other materials, so as to make the eraser meets requirements.
Is there any other use for eraser?
Eraser can be used not only to erase pen marks, but also for other purposes such as repair the instrument, and solve the poor contact fault of instrument equipment with circuit board plug-in. The eraser can wipe the interface metal of the circuit board, the copper foil stain and oxide film of the interface. And the circuit board socket can also be wiped preventively without causeing any damage.
